I am so glad you came to check out my site!  

My name is Denice Peters.  I was born and raised in Iowa.  I have been drawn to art my whole life.  I have attended many classes and seminars, but I am mostly self taught.  My main focus is to show the beauty around us and recently I have been working on the beauty that is dwindling in rural areas.   A scene that is too rapidly changing with urban sprawl and increased population.  What was once someone's pride and joy and great accomplishment - is now just abandoned and tossed aside to rot.

I do landscapes in mostly pastels and oils, and portraits in pencil and charcoal.   I have run my art studio on a part time basis since 1989.  But this year I have made the leap to full time.  So, I will be adding more to this site.

I have received awards in local and regional shows.  Recently, I have entered 2 national competitions, so we will see how that goes!  I do commissioned portraits through photos for the ease of all involved.  My portraits are usually done in Charcoal or Graphite and landscapes are done in Pastels or Oils.

I love to spend time creating, but I also have to get out there.  I enjoy going out there to find the next great scene or possible painting.  I also love to photograph scenes.  Some I use as photo references to take back to my studio.  I have done some plein aire painting, but I much prefer the comfort and controlled environment of the great indoors!  Photography is also a great tool to "practice the eye".
